She hid behind her name brand bag, tugging at her perfectly highlighted hair to be sure the straightener's magic still stood. She was surrounded in a sea of her likeness. They were talking, jabbering on about the same thing that had talked about yesterday. She couldn't remember the last time she had listened to anyone.

She saw the girl slide in; she was hard to miss- a shining beacon of black amongst a sea of pink. The sea shifted slightly to let this little piece of driftwood pass through with minimal amount of contact. There were no whispers anymore; they'd already worn out her as a subject. Until she purchased her next spike collar, the girl wouldn't raise an eyebrow.

She stared at her as this girl slipped into her desk, completely oblivious to the sea that was engulfing her. She rummaged through her backpack and pulled out a black notebook before sitting still, chewing on a desperately chipped fingernail.

As the viewer shifted her namebrand bag, she absently chipped a corner of her French manicure, biting the perfectly rounded edge ragged.

02.28.2008

Wow. It's been a full year almost since I updated this. I promise I wasn't completely gone, I was just completely without a subscription. Let's just say that vanity won out; I wanted to keep my beautiful journal page until I had the ability to change it.

 Thank you ~alialo for the subscription... it was the perfect birthday present and I'm already appreciating it.

I promise a much longer journal entry soon, but this will have to do for now. I should have some photography from abroad up soon as well as a few digital images I keep forgetting to submit.

Until then, I do have two random questions that I'd love tons of answers to:
If you could participate in any game show/reality TV show, which one would it be and why?

If you had great plans to be a world conqueror, what country would you start out with and why?

---------

A few features...

Jazer
~Jazer

His beautiful photographs caught my attention right away from my deviantWATCH. The scenery is impressive and really draws your eye right in.

Windcharmer
*Windcharmer

Yes, I featured her last time too. I like her art. I want more of her thumbnails on my page. I'm in love with her. Get over it and check out gallery.

Tattoomaus78
=Tattoomaus78

I think you'll understand just from the thumbnails why I love this artist's work so much. Make sure to fullview.

endrju100
~endrju100

An ounce of grungy surrealism... combined with some really imaginative concepts. If you're watching my art, you should enjoy this too.

Aegis-Strife
*Aegis-Strife

Hardly needs my introduction, but I've loved his art for ages now. This feature was way overdue, but I really wanted some of his art in the form of thumbnails gracing my journal page.

Aleksandra
`aleksandra

One of her manipulations was the first favorite I ever added to my gallery. I've always loved her dark manipulations, but during my last visit I noticed just how much beautiful photography she has been doing lately. Couldn't help but mention some of it.

So this may not be new anymore, but I'm late too, so I'll still make a shotout. They've released their fourth pack, Square.

This time around we decided to do something a bit different and actually take a format as a theme. So the artists could create anything they wanted as long as it was in “SQUARE” format. As a result we got a beautiful mix of topics in this release. We hope you’ll enjoy it !

If you're looking for examples of high-quality and innovative digital artwork, I suggest looking through their new release.

The stone-faced girl dropped into the rushing river, a sigh of relief escaping her lips. Immediately, she dove deeper, letting the crashing waters close around her. It swept her downstream, and she let herself be swept. Signs of the shore gradually fell away, and she closed her eyes.

The tears began to fall, each a separate, perfect drop. For a glistening moment, it was alone and free, and then was taken in by the rushing waters, becoming part of the multitude of tears once shed. More and more fell, and the girl was not ashamed to shed them: here, no one and everyone at once could see her.

Surrounding her was a liquid warmth that soothed her heart. She was swimming upon a stream of tears—whether borne from the eyes of rampant dinosaurs, gentle deer, or people such as herself. Her tears were no longer alone—they were home, amongst the never-quiet stream.

A shout broke through her serenity, and she forced herself to rise. Stepping back into the sunlight, she fastened her stony mask back into place.

03.19.07.

Well I know it's been a really long time since I've updated, so I decided to write a quick update just to have something new on my page and let everyone know I'm still alive... at least barely. :giggle:

Currently, I'm sitting in a classroom, listening to my teacher explain analogical refutations- something I should be studying for the test on Wednesday, but with three hours of sleep, it just doesn't feel important.

Definitely a bit bogged down with work... though Spring Break was a short relief, it's now back to the world of mid-terms and marine biology. Gosh how I miss the carefree feeling of the first day of Spring Break... especially with my second marine bio test tomorrow (and the knowledge that I cannot have a repeat of the first one before my grade crashes and burns :giggle:) But then again, when have I not been bogged down with work?

Ummmmm... I've got another month of subscribed life- yay! If anyone is desperate to send a late birthday present... wink wink... subscriptions are wonderful, wonderful things. And speaking of birthday presents, thank you to *Windcharmer and *forever-simplicity for the prints... I love them & you two girls.

Aren't they pretty?

Speaking of pretty... if you love my new journal layout- thank ~ssdEternity for me. She is a wonderful artist and a very kind person... I love the layout; she did an amazing job with it.

Other than that... my update's done... except I want to hear back from you guys, so if you have the time- fill out my random questionarre:

Super Random Questionarre
1. What is your middle name?
2. What is your favorite color?
3. Diamonds, sapphires, or emeralds?
4. Coke or Pepsi?
5. Your all-time favorite art piece on deviantART?
6. The piece that you first remember inspiring you to create art yourself?
7. Favorite childhood toy? (Examples: Candy Land, My Little Pony, Pretty Pretty Princess, GI Joe...)
8. Favorite TV show ever?
9. Old movies or new?
10. King Leonidis (from 300) or Jack Bauer: which one would win in a fight?

Exceeds has recently released ArtPack 03 SORROW.

Sorrow is a feeling of sadness and regret. It can be caused by not having done something, by regretting ones actions or by being unable to reach a decision about something. Another cause can be by circumstances outside of our reach, for example the sorrow you feel after a tragic loss (someone close to you being killed in a car accident).

If you're looking for examples of high-quality and innovative digital artwork, I suggest looking through their new release.

the world spins as one falls to the ground;
the tears flow and the cries resound;
an empty heart matches the empty hand
straining to grasp or what no longer stands.
a heart is thrown from the course once set
with a tragic love destined to remain unmet,
sacrificed to feed a bullet's hunger for the skin
of a man, his secrets now locked within.

the world spins as one falls to the ground
and greets the room with a wait of sound;
a small heart matches the tiny hand
and little feet that cannot yet stand.
a heart is filled beyond boundaries once set
with a maternal love-- its dreams now met;
nurtured beneath a mother's soft skin,
a river of warm blood is locked within.

Personal comments:
Wow... it's been such a long time since I've been able to properly update my journal.

To be perfectly honest, this is probably not the best timing for me to do so, but since I am awake at 6am in the morning, and my brain needs a break from studying, I will do so anyway! :giggle:

Finals this week, and I must say- my brain is really dying. One down, two exams and a final paper to go. Grades not quite as good as I would like them to be, but my GPA should be all right.

Other than that... Christmas is almost here! I can't wait for the holidays, though I honestly haven't done any Christmas shopping yet.

How sad is it that that's really all the updates I have for my life? ... depressing.

Anyway! You may have noticed (or probably not) that I added a few new people to my "Accounts Worth Watching" group. I've decided that I should definitely jump on the bandwagon and put up some featured artists.

Featured Artists:

When I was thinking about who to add to the list, AutumnsGoddess came to mind right away. I'm sure quite a few of you have seen her work, so I'm not exactly discovering anyone hidden here, but I've always loved her gallery and couldn't resist featuring it here.

If you're a fan of surreal images, she has quite a few that are worth your time to check out. If you like fantasy- she has quite the cream of the crop for you to choose from. Lots of different concepts and styles within her art... definitely a must see.

Also an easy choice. I'm sure a lot of people are familiar with her as well, but I felt the need to include her in the featured artists. I first noticed her when I was trying to decide which print to request as my prize for winning in the caption contest. If you look at my wishlist, there's more than one from her... and I had to restrain myself to keep from asking for more of then. If you're looking for prints- glance through hers; it's like being a very hungry fat kid kid in a candystore.

Spare a moment to look around her gallery- you'll understand why I included her here. She's got a large collection of manipulations and a few vectors in there, not to mention a calendar that's pure eye-candy. Trust me, it's worth your time.

ThisYearsGirl is also one of those artists I've noticed fairly often. She has a gallery of really beautiful photomanipulations that will be sure to catch your eye if you can find the time to walk through it.

From bright manipulations to the darker, emotional focus on people, she really proves she knows her art. If you like texture, you're especially in for a treat.

Valkirye is someone I stumbled upon tonight/this morning and knew immediately I loved.

She makes wonderful use of sepia tones and red hues to display her very unique concepts. Her manipulations are flawlessly executed and thought-provoking while her photography often has a lovely play on words. If you're interested in conceptual photography and want to have your mind stimulated a little, check her out.

Finally, a guy! See? I'm not sexist. But really... this artist is really inspirational if you love surrealism. His images are packed with details and concepts that will take a few minutes to turn over in your head.

His use of color is also very impressive. If you're like me and you love brightly colored surrealist images, this is going to be pure eye-candy. Make sure to stop by.

In my late-night wanderings, I also stumbled upon an art group called "Exceeds." They create beautiful art that is well worth a look. Released in packs that are a very quick download (It's .pdf you lazy bums- it will open in the window), the group is well-deserving of your support.

They recently released their newest pack, "Holy." I'd definitely recommend checking it out. I was very glad I did.

Oh yea, and...
I got tired of the un-pimped version of my journal. Maybe one day I'll make my own nice CSS version, but for now, enjoy the lovely forest.

(And if you are willing to help me figure out this incredible feat of making a CSS layout... let me know. Otherwise I might somehow destroy all of DA while attempting to make something bold.

Yea.
It could be bad.

Love you all!

Too busy to properly update, but I do have a really important favor to ask of you all...

I'm sure I've never told a lot of y'all, but when I was younger, I was dying to be a vet. Yes- me, the person who absolutely detests any form of math/science and avoids all types of doctor's offices. Anyway, we had a family friend who lived next to my grandmother's house in Maryland who agreed to let me work in his vet office for a while.

I spent a lot of summers working in his clinic, and really grew to know him- he was such a great guy. He's one of those veterinarians that makes you have a little more faith in mankind. I can't count the number of times someone brought in an animal they had either found or couldn't afford to keep to be euthanized, and Doc either took the animal to add to his mini-zoo of a home... or put up for adoption, housing it at his own cost. His house is literally overrun by dogs, and there are so many cats he can't even count them. He has a field full of horses, donkeys, pigs, and even an emu for good faith. Not to mention, the man puts out his home phone number for anyone who might need it, and if there is an emergency, he'll come running without even changing out of his pajamas.

He's just generally a great guy, and an amazing vet... and I just found out recently that he's up for Animal Planet's Hero of the Year contest. Out of 4,000 entrant, "Doc" - Doctor William Mitchell- has been chosen as one of the 10 finalists. Part of the contest is based on votes online, so I was wondering if you guys could please vote for him? :)

Vote here!

It only takes a second, and I know he would really appreciate it.
Also- if anyone has time, let your friends know? He totally deserves this award!!

Thanks everyone.
